Gleegleegleegleegleeeeee

okay, I'm ridiculously tired and am about to crawl into my bed and drift off to sleep while watching an episode of Red Dwarf, so this is going to be a really short post followed by a much longer post tomorrow when I'm more fully conscious.

I had so much fun tonight and I feel so elated and proud and I kind of feel like I want to cry.
Just a little bit.

I love Glee Camp and I am most definitely signing up again in January.

LOVE.

creativity

I feel the sudden urge to create something, to do something fun.
Thanks to Color Me Katie and her amazingly inspiring blog and various art projects, I'm overwhelmed with creative juices.
I want to film a fun, silly music video.
I want to cut up bits of fabric and sew them together to create something spectacular.
I want to dance and frolick in funny costumes and take crazy pictures.
But alas, it is the middle of the night and I am far too tired to accomplish any of this.
It will have to wait for another time.

(heart Kirsten Vangsness)

I also wanted to mention that I had a very peculiar and wonderful dream last night.
I hate when dreams are so awesome that you wake up feeling disappointed in your real life and it puts you in a funk for the rest of the day.
Or is that just me?

nostalgia

I've been feeling pretty nostalgic today.
First, I was listening to a cover of Baby One More Time played on acoustic guitar by an old time love of mine, Brendon Urie. Still a fan, not gonna lie. Great voice. cute face /iswaitingfornewP!ATDrecord
And I've now moved on to reminiscing about many other things.
For example.
this blog reminded me of the many awesome things about being a child of the 90's.
this show reminds me of my favourite show Big Wolf on Campus.
I also picked up the dvds of Red Dwarf at the library today (a childhood favourite of mine. a great old British sci-fi comedy.) I'm stoked to start watching tonight. Haven't watched in ages. Not since my sister's friend brought over all her dvds and we had a marathon last year... that was fun :)
Oh yes! And I have decided to reread the entire Harry Potter series.
I'll be honest, I haven't read any of the books more than once. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, I'm not much of a rereader of any sort, no matter how much I love a book. Not too sure why, but I've never been able to finish when I decide to read a novel a second time. Another reason is my crippling fear that it would ruin my childhood. I thought, for whatever reason, that reading them now that I'm older would somehow diminish my love for the series. That I would somehow lose the whimsy and focus too much on the flaws. But I have decided that this is impossible because I hold so much love and sentimental attachment to the series that I don't think anything could change that. And with fresh eyes and a new found perspective, it might make for an interesting read. I'm so much more involved and attached to the characters than I was back then and I believe that I have now a greater appreciation and understanding of the stories. Things that may have seemed trivial at the time now have deeper meaning, and it will be interesting to pick up on subtle hints and plot developments.
I will let you know how it goes.
I've also been thinking back on high school and the musicals and some awesome times in choir, drama and the hole. Yeah. I miss high school. Is that weird?
It's been a long, tiring day and I think I'm about ready to curl up with my stuffed animal and drift off to dreamland.
Goodnight, all.

Harry Freakin Potter

So. I went to the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One midnight movie madness premiere release on thursday night.
It was totally awesome.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I went with two cool buds and by crazy random happenstance, bumped into two more at the theater, who let us cut in line with them ;)
It was a long wait (five hours!) but most definitely worth it.
I loved chitterchattering with fellow fans about our predictions for the movie and seeing everyone's costumes. There was a guy dressed as Quirrell, including a Voldemort on the back of his turban! Quirrellemort!
It feels so good to be surrounded by people who are just as excited (and nerdy!) about something as you are. I felt home. I felt loved. I felt like I belonged.
It was also amazing to know that all across Vancouver and any other place in the same time zone, hundreds and hundreds of people were all having the same experience. Watching the same movie, laughing when I was laughing, crying when I was crying... feeling essentially all the same emotions as I was going through. It's almost mind boggling to think about.
And the movie itself was phenomenal. I felt it was the best one yet, in a lot of ways. Off the top of my head, I can't name any major complaints. Well, except the massive awkwardness that is Harry/Ginny, but that's unavoidable. Their on screen chemistry is so non-existant it's cringeworthy and almost painful to watch.
But other than that, I felt it was stunningly beautiful, emotional, well acted and extremely well done. Especially the Tale of Three Brothers bit. Ah! So gorgeous. And like nothing we've ever seen in an HP film before. It really stood out.
And they did a good job breaking the tension with some well placed humour. Even though the movie is quite serious and dark and remarkably sad, there were definitely parts where I was whole heartedly laughing and smiling through my anguish and tears.
And there were tears, believe me. I was sniffling and misty eyed the whole way through. Partly from the emotional setting of the film and also partly due to the crushing sadness that this whole phenomenon will soon be coming to an end.
Though, I know in my heart it will never truly be over.

If you want to know more of my opinions specifically and you're okay with spoilers, I highly suggest watching this video by my favourite youtuber, Kristina Horner (italktosnakes) because I essentially share all her opinions (with a few exceptions. Harry/Ginny in the books I actually didn't mind, I went into the movie expecting to like it better than the book...etc) and I kinda just love her and how she talks about things, so yeah. Go watch it cause she's lovely and awesome.

Oh man, and there were some pretty hilarious moments between us pals as well.
"That's it. I have had it with these mutha fuckin' snakes!"
"That's rough, man."
"Paranormal Blacktivity."

My plans of getting epic footage in the line were foiled because we were made to hand over any and all recording devices, cameras or laptops to be locked up in the office with name and phone number attached. Bullshit, I say. So I hid my camera away inside my trusty Hedwig backpack. Unfortunately, I now have no footage. But I did make a long, rambly vlog when I got home at four in the morning, describing practically every piece of Harry Potter related merchandise I own. So, feel free to enjoy that here.

the fresh air will do you good

I just went for a brisk walk in the cool, crisp autumn air.

It was calm, dim, the sun was setting.

I walked in circles with no particular destination for about twenty minutes before returning home, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Dear Claire,

This blog post is for and about you and only you.

Tonight I had a truly splendiferous time. The two of us have this undeniable bond that is so grand I cannot describe it in words.

We seem to be able to talk about just about anything. Things I didn't even know I thought. Things I would probably not feel comfortable talking about with anyone else. And I know my secrets are safe with you.

I wanted to write this whole thing right after you left, but can only manage a few bits and pieces because I am just so damn tired. Actually, that's exactly why you left. Because the two of us were practically falling asleep mid-sentence. I hope this turns out okay. I may have to edit it in the morn.

I enjoyed making crafts with you and our random trip to Walmart to buy supplies. I cherish my bracelet. I hope it does not fall off. And I hope you like yours too. Princeton is safe on my shelf, above my Harry Potter books, looking down upon Vampire Diaries with disdain. And confusion. And my DFTBA poster will be kept safely somewhere as well, once all the glitter glue has dried.

I wish I could remember that one hilarious quote that we both said we were going to put in our blogs, but at the moment it has completely slipped my memory.

I realize now that I talk and talk and talk about all my personal and family issues, but I hardly know a thing about yours. If you're comfortable with sharing, I would love to hear. Next time.

I hope you enjoyed your first vlog making experience and that I didn't bore you to death while you watched me edit. And hopefully the vid will be up soon, but YouTube is taking forever to process it... Thank you for complimenting my editing skills. It really means a lot.

I cannot wait to go see Harry Potter with you next week. I hope we can manage a shopping trip for costumes beforehand.

I meant to talk to you about taking a road/train trip down to Seattle this winter to see the Harry Potter exhibit. We will discuss on Thurs. I also have many other things planned (potentially) for that evening. I will bring my trivia cards from my Harry Potter Scene It game and I will load up my ipod with A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel (as you have not seen either), because we will need something to keep us entertained whilst waiting in line.

I fear I am beginning to babble. My head is ready for sleep so I'm not sure what I'm saying anymore... I think you get the idea.

Basically, I lurv yew.

ps: I don't know what to do with all this left over ginger ale lol.

pps: "I'm spilling eyeballs everywhere! ... sentence I never thought I'd say." -- Was that it? 0.o

ppps: It uploaded.

Prepare yourself for a nerd-splosion!

With the release date of the latest Harry Potter flick fast approaching, I find myself revisiting my box of Harry Potter memorabilia. Actually, two boxes. Including books, wands, a stuffed Hedwig backpack, a replica of an official Hogwarts letter and most importantly, a full length robe and Hogwarts uniform. Which I intend to wear this upcoming Thursday for the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One.

However, I am missing one crucial part of my costume. A house tie. Which leads me to my next point.

I, Racheltastik, am a Hufflepuff. And damn proud, too.

Back in the day, I thought I was a Gryffindor. But I think, really, I just wanted to be in the same house as Ron Weasley because I had(have) a massive crush on him. I'd be sleazy for Ron Weasley!

But truth be told, I am a Hufflepuff through and through. 'Puff pride!

While many refer to Hufflepuff as the inferior house, I fiercely disagree. I mean, we got Tonks and Cedric, did we not? Two incredibly awesome, strong, badass characters? One who was chosen above all other eligible students at Hogwarts to participate in the Triwizard Tournament? Yeah, I'd say, we rock. (and please don't bring up the whole "sparkly vampire" crap, because just because the two characters were played by the same actor does not make them, in any way, similar. your point is invalid.)

Hufflepuffs are known mainly for their loyalty, as well as their kindness, hard work and values. Oh yes, and for being particularly good finders!

These are all characteristics that I am proud to possess. Forget the bravery, intelligence and ambition of the other Houses, I'm perfectly satisfied to be a friendly, happy Hufflepuff!

Only trouble is, it's near impossible to find* a tie to match my house. Besides online, but those tend to be pricey when you start having to add shipping and such. So I am planning a trip to a specific shop downtown which, according to the website, carries certain Harry Potter related merchandise. Thanks for the tip Krista K!

I am also planning a trip to Seattle and Orlando in the near future.

Seattle for the Harry Potter exhibition at the Pacific Science Center (Road trip, hey bffs? maybe take the train? stay at a cheap hotel/my time share and spend a weekend just us girls? plz say yus.)

Orlando for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios. As Harry Potter fan, it is my dream to go to Hogwarts. And this is about as close as one can possibly get. But of course, this won't be until next summer or so. Sooner, with any luck.

I would also love to attend a Harry Potter conference or convention because that would be amazing. I had so much fun at the Supernatural convention, I can only imagine an HP one xD

OTHER HARRY POTTER RELATED AWESOME-NESS:

W-Rock

I also listen to a little Wizard Rock, such as The Parselmouths and Harry and the Potters. Songs written about the books, movies and fandom? Super cool.

Potter Puppet Pals

Oh, come on. You must have seen PPP. Brilliant little skits, performed by puppets, and written by Neil Cicierega?

Omegleshit

Ever heard of that website omegle? it's an anonymous chat site. this tumblr account is dedicated to sharing the ridiculous encounters of one Potter obsessed fan who goes on that website, pretending to be any number of characters from the books, with hilarious results.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY.

A Very Potter Musical. A highly successful, TOTALLY AWESOME, musical parody of the series which should be watched by one and all! Because it is truly hilarious, brilliantly written and chock full of talent. Such as the amazingly dreamy Darren Criss, whose voice could make the iceberg that hit Titanic melt into a puddle of mush. He is a dreamboat. And also happens to have made an appearance on Glee! And is set to return many more times, possibly to become a series regular! I am beyond excited about this! And I believe I may have frightened a few Gleeks due to my incessant rambling about how amazing Darren Criss is.

That is all for now.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go polish my raddish earrings and dig out my S.P.E.W. pin.

PEACE OFF.

melancholy.

hello my scrumptious little blog friends.
today is a melancholy day.
I have done nothing but sit in my room, listening to melancholy music and wallowing in a very strong pool of melancholy.
I'm none too sure why.
But, while I've been in here, I picked up my guitar and learned a new song.
A lovely, very pretty song which you can listen to here or a really splendid cover of it here (which is, coincidentally, the video I stumbled upon in the first place which peaked my interest in this song.)
I also had a nice little visit with my gal, during which we discussed religion, friendships and homophobia. It was a good chat.
And now I'm going to curl up in my bed and watch some Gilmore Girls.
My melancholy has morphed its way into apathy.
Perhaps tomorrow I will have returned to my spunky self, but for tonight I have... ennui. (lol Gilmore Girls reference.)

Halloweddingtober

Good evening bloggers.
This blog post comes to you in three parts.

Part One: Wedding.
On Thursday October 28th my marvelous cousin Brie and her long time beau, Sean, were wed.
It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony of close family and friends.
The venue was fantastic, with the most delectable food I have ever tasted in my life. And so fancy! I've never had such delicacies!
Brie and her fella were looking dapper, and it was touching to hear the two recite a poem called "I Like You" which was adorable in itself.
A select few others also recited poetry, and of course, as is Danish tradition, we sang a song about the happy pair.
"Brie Lynn and Sean, it took them oh so long, but finally they've gone and made it legal."
It was so nice to see my cousin Brie.
She is one of the coolest people I know (yes, that's right Brie!) and I rarely get to see her, since she lives so far away. (In Geneva, which always reminds me of Genovia, the fictional country in The Princess Diaries. I have such a hard time not mixing the two up. /embarrassing.) **
And of course, I love getting together with everybody. We're a crazy bunch and it's nice to welcome Sean officially to the family.
Though, in my eyes, he always has been. I can't remember a time without him...
While the two were here, we also had a great big brunch at my aunt and uncles house where we sang their wedding song once more.
There were so many of us, we could barely fit in the dining room!
All in all, two splendid occasions.
Congratulations Brie and Sean! May you always be happy together!

Part Two: Halloween.
I had a rather uneventful one this year.
But I still managed to wear three different costumes at three different times.
One: my Garcia costume
Two: the cat ears and long black dress I wore to work
Three: my fairy costume which I wore specifically to hand out candy
And yet, I still have a costume in my closet that has so far gone unworn...
In other costume news...
Halloween: The day when guys attempt to look as ridiculous as possible (usually in drag) and girls try to look as slutty as possible (usually attaching some kind of animal ears (lol Mean Girls) or "character" (ie. cop, fairy tale princess, french maid) to their sluttiness.)
It is also the day when most people go out and party. But I'm not into that.
I rented Scooby-Doo: Zombie Island and Casper, both of which were near impossible to find.
I had to go to three video places before I found them!!
And none of said places had Hocus Pocus.
Which is, quite possibly, the best Halloween movie ever.
But luckily, it was on Family Channel on friday night so I still got to watch it.
Love.
Seriously, I used to have the biggest crush on Max.
And Binx, too. Even though for most of the movie... he's a cat.
I was little! Leave me alone!
I also made two videos for my youtube channel, jsyk.
And handed out candy to the littluns, at work and at home.

Part Three: Everything Else.
Alright, well this is the point in the blog where I tell you about a bunch of things
that couldn't quite fit into any particular category by themselves
and so have to share one overall umbrella-like category with a few other items.
Number one, I'm in need of a girly gossip night with a certain friend which I, thankfully,
will be getting on wednesday. Thank the lord.
Number two, while others highly disagree with me, I actually rather enjoyed the
Rocky Horror Glee Show.
With the exception of the fact that any time Mr. Shue did anything, ever, I felt horribly uncomfortable and embarrassed. You are their teacher, Mr. Shue. Stop it.
And number three, I will be departing to Las Vegas in a matter of days and have yet to pack as I have no idea what the weather is like in Vegas or what I am supposed to pack for such a trip. All I have is a magazine and some almonds for the flight.

**lol yes, Shayla, your name can be in my blog.

Right, that's all from me!
DFTBA!
